Cybersecurity tip: How to keep off phishing scams with DNS

, did you know you can protect yourself from phishing scams by using a DNS server that has a list of malicious websites blocked? These DNS servers are called "safe DNS" servers.

They help you avoid harmful websites. When you’re about to access a risky site, your computer alerts you and stops you from visiting it.

There are a few different ways to set up safe DNS servers on your computer or network. Two of the most common methods are:

1. Change your computer's DNS settings: Most computers allow you to change your DNS settings manually. To do this, you will need to know the IP addresses of the safe DNS servers that you want to use. Some popular safe DNS servers include Google Public DNS (8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8) and Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1).

2. Change your router's DNS settings: If you have a home router, you can also change the DNS settings for your entire network. This will protect all the devices on your network from malicious websites. To do this, you will need to log in to your router's administration page and find the DNS settings.

This is a good step towards avoiding online scams like phishing. Stay safe!
